What are the Symptoms of a Bad Universal Joint?

- Clunking Sound: A loud "clunk" or "thud" when shifting from Park into Drive or Reverse, or when accelerating and decelerating, suggests significant play or "slop" in the joint.
- Vibrations: High-frequency vibrations felt through the floor or seat, particularly at highway speeds, can indicate that the U-joint is worn and the tailshaft is no longer properly balanced.

Can You Drive with a Broken Universal Joint?
Driving with a broken or severely worn U-joint is highly dangerous and is not recommended. If a U-joint snaps completely while the vehicle is in motion, the tailshaft can drop and hit the road surface or whip around under the vehicle.
